Inmates at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn are once again without heat — this is just one month after they suffered heat and power outages which sparked outrage and protests at the jail.
According to the News reports from inmates on four units on three floors stated that the heat was out in their cells. The firsthand accounts came from clients who were calling their lawyers to make their complaints.
Deirdre von Dornum, a lawyer with the Federal Defenders of New York, told reporters outside Brooklyn Federal Court that she had “firsthand knowledge” that at least three units in the jail had no heat.
